I’ve always been fascinated by jazz, by the exploration of interesting harmonies and unusual rhythms. The world of contemporary music first absorbed me when I discovered the scores of Witold Lutosławski, Toshio Hosokawa, Kaija Saariaho, Sofia Gubajdulina. At that time I was also drawn to film and play scores which I believe allows for freely mixing genres, instrumentation, and the use of electronic musical instruments.
During my PhD studies in orchestral and opera conducting, I became deeply acquainted with outstanding works of classical music – I enjoy writing traditional-style orchestral music alongside my more experimental approach.

Although I believe that melody and tune still play the most important role in all these genres, I’m also strongly drawn to approaches where the music is almost devoid of a tune and is instead based on unusual textures and intriguing sounds.
Music is boundless – the works that have already been created are eternal, and yet the creativity and evolution of the field will never end.
This diversity and the possibilities of music are so exciting for me that this work has become a lifelong calling.

Laureate of numerous composer competitions.
Fascinated by music from an early age, she began her career as a composer at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, writing orchestral music and contemporary scores for chamber ensembles. She then turned her interests towards conducting.
She completed her orchestral and opera conducting PhD at the University of Music in Warsaw. She performed her own works with various orchestra ensembles. In addition to classical music, Monika pursues other genres – film, plays, TV and video game scores. She produces music in her own studio.
